INFANT BAPTISMS
(For newborns younger than 7)(Para bebés menores de 7 años)Infant Baptism is available for children from birth until before reaching the age of 7. Children ages 7 and older who have reached the age of reason must participate in special catechism classes known as OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) for children ages 7 to 17. OCIA classes for children last one year; registration begins in mid-July, and classes begin in late August or early September. Upon completion of the preparation, they will receive Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion in a single ceremony, which is normally celebrated on the Friday after Easter Sunday.

El Bautismo de recién nacidos está disponible para niños desde el nacimiento hasta antes de cumplir los 7 años. Los niños de 7 años en adelante que ya tienen uso de razón deben participar en clases especiales de catecismo conocidas como OICA (Orden de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos) para niños de 7 a 17 años. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
(up to 17 years old)
First Holy Communion is generally celebrated in the Easter season for children in 2nd grade and higher. Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation for two years as a way of understanding the Eucharist as the Sacrament of gift. In our archdiocese, preparation and celebration of Reconciliation is required prior to the reception of First Holy Communion. Parents are given take-home materials to help their children train for these great liturgical moments.

ADULT FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
(18 years old or older)
Those Catholics in a non-Catholic union must marry in the church (convalidation) before receiving other sacraments.

YOUTH CONFIRMATION
At St. Bartholomew, teens preparing for Confirmation must complete two and a half years of Confirmation classes: Crew 1, Crew 2, and Crew 3. They must also attend two retreats, complete service hours beginning in January of their Crew 2 year, and participate in an interview with the Youth Coordinator.
The Confirmation ceremony with the Bishop is usually celebrated on the first Friday of December.
Online registration for High School Confirmation classes for Crew 1, Crew 2, and Crew 3 usually opens in May and remains available through mid-June for students entering 9th grade and above. ADULT CONFIRMATION FOR ADULTS Adult Confirmation is for Catholics age 18 and older who have already received Baptism, First Communion, and Penance, but have not yet received Confirmation.
If married, the person must be validly married in the Catholic Church. Those in a non-Catholic union must convalidate their marriage in the Church before receiving any other sacrament.
At St. Bartholomew, preparation classes are offered in English and Spanish. Diocesan Confirmation Masses are usually offered twice a year: around Pentecost in May or June, and around the Epiphany of the Lord in January.

CONFESSIONS
FIRST RECONCILIATION
(children up to 17 years old)Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place during 2nd grade catechism classes for children.
Children must be baptized before receiving Reconciliation. If the child was not baptized at St. Bartholomew, a baptismal certificate must be presented. The family must be registered parishioners, and the child must be enrolled in catechism classes for children and have completed the previous year with at least 80% attendance.
Parents are required to attend a mandatory Reconciliation meeting.
FIRST RECONCILIATION
(18 years and older)Adults age 18 and older who need preparation for First Reconciliation should participate in OCIA or a similar adult sacramental preparation program.

HOLY MATRIMONY
Couples preparing for the Sacrament of Matrimony should begin the marriage preparation process at least one year before the desired wedding date. It may be possible to begin the process with less time, but it becomes more difficult because all requirements must be completed in a shorter period.
Couples who are already cohabiting or civilly married are encouraged to convalidate their marriage in the Catholic Church as soon as possible, so they may live fully in the grace of the sacrament and no longer remain in an irregular union outside of Catholic marriage.
Those in a non-Catholic union must marry in the Church before receiving other sacraments, such as First Communion or Confirmation. In some cases, it may be possible for a baptized Catholic to receive First Communion on the day of the wedding.
If the wedding will take place in another diocese, the preparation is usually completed in the parish where either the bride or the groom resides.
Engaged couples should contact the parish office to schedule an appointment to complete the prenuptial questionnaire and witness affidavits. Two witnesses are required for the bride and two for the groom. A recently issued baptismal certificate is also required for each Catholic party.
If one of the parties is not Catholic, the couple may celebrate a mixed marriage ceremony without Mass. A wedding Mass is normally reserved for marriages in which both the bride and groom are Catholic. If the non-Catholic party is baptized, special permission may be requested from the Bishop to celebrate the marriage within Mass; however, the non-Catholic party may not receive Holy Communion. If the other party is not baptized, the Rite of Marriage is always celebrated outside of Mass.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may be requested when someone is seriously ill, before surgery, or after receiving a serious diagnosis. Please do not wait until the person is near death to call a priest. If the person is admitted to the hospital, please contact the parish as soon as possible.
If you have an emergency for the sick or dying, or someone needs anointing in the Katy area, call 713-787-3930 for a St. Bartholomew parish priest. This directs you to a 24-hour answering service. The service will contact the on-call clergy.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is also celebrated on the first Saturday of each month following the 8:30 AM Mass in the Church. It may also be celebrated after daily Mass for those who are seriously ill, preparing for surgery, or in need of this sacrament.
Children who have not reached the use of reason should not be anointed.
